The central square in Cracow, called Rynek Glowny, is the second largest medieval square in Europe after St. Mark's. Lots of historical places to visit in Cracow and Poland...
In the centre of the square is the Sukiennice or cloth hall which houses a collection of market stalls selling traditional Polish crafts.
A flower market creates an array of colour at one side of the square.
The bugler in Cracow (Cracow)
In 1241 a bugler sounded the alarm by playing his bugle out of the tower window to warn the city of the impending arrival of a hostile Tatar army. His throat was cut by a Tartar's arrow ending his music abruptly. In commemeoration of this event, every day, every hour, a bugler appears at a window at the top of St Mary's Basilica and plays the same music until suddenly cut short in mid breath. |
