Poland holidays for a step back in time |
Culture, tradition and value for money
Most people who have never visited Poland before are surprised at what they find. Bears and wolves no longer terrorise the villagers but are restricted to the national parks, along with wild boar and a myriad of other creatures that are extinct in the west.
People express surprise at the advances in technology and development of the country. There are superb shopping malls like the Cracowska Centre in Cracow, a state-of-the-art aquapark in Zakopane, wonderful Internet banking, and the trains run on time even though travel is cheap.
- Polish tradition and culture
If you visit southern Poland, the zakopane and Cracow area, you will discover a Poland where the cuisine is still traditional highland, where people perform in national costume or waitresses wear it in restaurants, where they dance in a very Polish way in the pubs and clubs.
It's a taste of Polish tradition and culture but alien and different to people from the west, which makes it interesting.
Attitudes and the nature of the people is different. Sometimes this is good, and other times not so good. Most people still smoke, the driving is poor, and yes, the menu is dominated by pork. But, if you look beyond this, you will discover stunning unspoiled countryside where hay is gathered in by hand, a strong tradition of folk culture expressed in song and dance, handsome architecture, multi-screen cinemas, internet cafes... the world of yesterday married with the hi-tech of today.
